Um, what? My Text Twirl ass-kicking with one of my sophomore buddies has been put to a halt. Apparently matches expire? Facebook, I hate you sometimes.

So I haven't posted anything really deep lately, and I was kind of in a mood to ramble aimlessly and also talk about the puzzling thing that is fandom in my life at this moment. This is the result of all those things. I put it under a cut because it's way too long, but as a gift for all who might want to read it, I divided it into paragraphs. Enjoy.

Thoughts on fandom )

Okay, and read this and tell me if it's not totally offensive and the worst ever attempt to respond to scandalous things. It's part of the opening sketch they aired the night Nora boycotted SNL over Andrew Dice Clay hosting. Kind of cruel and really not that funny. Um, it's in an alternate universe, but I'm pretty sure it involves her death? Or her being crushed in some way, but usually that indicates death, especially with the not-so-subtle Wizard of Oz reference. I'm pretty sure everyone wanted to stab her when this happened, so clearly they were too distracted by their anger to write legitimate jokes. I mean, this entire sketch is basically a big "fuck you" to her. Man, even when she left that didn't put an end to the drama.
You'll see. You'll all see. )

SIGH.

I kept saying that it would be the most amazing feeling of my life if and when the WGA and AMPTP finally made a deal. But this deal sucks. I assumed the writers would stay on strike until they got what they were asking for, or at least something close to it. The contract deals with new media, but they're still getting screwed over. I'm really disappointed. For 17 days following the initial airing of a new episode, they won't get paid when anyone watches a show online. Attempts to include animation writers and reality TV writers were apparently completely unsuccessful, and as far as I know they haven't even gotten anything done with DVDs yet, which they were hoping would be an increase from 4% to 8%. I'm sure they'll settle that soon, but they'll probably vote to call off the strike before then, so they won't have nearly as much leverage.

And let's just take a second to mourn the fact that Patty Griffin tragically did not win a Grammy last night. I'm not gonna get into depth because I have no knowledge of the album that won; and who knows, maybe it's awesome. But still, sad times.

Also a mourning topic--how much homework I have tonight, which must be a violation of the Bill of Rights in some way. I won't get into too much detail lest it cut into my joyous homework time, but nevertheless, it sucks. I have a current events talk in APUS tomorrow, so naturally I have to spend my entire life preparing for it (a process which includes finding out where China is).

I was thinking about Awake--we have to write something for my screenwriting class on an underdeveloped character, and that movie was the first thing that came to mind. (Burn.) Anyway, it just makes me sad. That movie was so ridiculously flawed, and yet...Lena Olin was awesome. In the best possible way. Like, as far as a role/her performance, I would rate it really highly, because she was totally excellent. Which I think is something she expressed about the movie too. But aside from that it's just like this epic mistake. I mean, what do you expect from a movie that doesn't even give her obvious billing, when she so clearly should have been #3? I'm not even being an elitist loser right now. She really deserved that. Or at the very least the "and" credit, which I'm almost positive she didn't get. I mean, her character was so completely badass in the end. Apparently what she did wasn't possible, but I don't even care. She OWNED the end of that movie.

I should go. Good times with homework await.

LIES.

Seriously, guys, I'm expecting questions about The Emperor's New Groove. :P

I got an 88 on my Physics quiz!!! I have a C+ now!!! HAPPY TIMES.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] jillkins did this. So I'm doing it. It is basically a very brief history of my movie/TV/person fandoms. I would go into more details, but I would bore myself to death, so this is just a circumstancial explanation of my semi-epic list of all the people I heart and when I liked them. You can find the list HERE.

Fandom History )

Tomorrow = awesomest day of my life. Hollywood & History final, which is not a final at all, and then I get to go home. *happy dance*

1. I've officially discovered the worst and yet most amazing ship of all time. So I was watching season 1, the part where Teri has amnesia (lmao, good times) and she goes home with Phil, and then eventually that terrorist tries to shoot her and Tony saves her. And then after that, she's flipping out, and Tony grabs her face and looks her in the eye? Yeah. So sexy.

2. I'm trying to think of more crazy ships, just because I enjoy them so much. I'm still thinking about Kim/Edgar. Oh, and I've been completely converted to Chloe/Nina as a result of my own frightening means. Believe me, there are reasons to ship them. At least 10.

3. I totally just read a massively spoilery summary of Awake. And, oh my god, I love Lena Olin. I totally can't even describe the level at which I love her right now. For she is awesome. I know the movie apparently sucks, but it's like this whole new level for Lena as an actress. As Irina she was brilliant and elusive, but from what I've heard about this role she gets to like, this deep level of existence that is totally beyond Irina's ultimate goal of self-preservation. Apparently this is one of the projects Lena is happiest with, so that kind of heightens my intrigue.

4. Did anyone else watch Clash of the Choirs? I can't decide who to vote for. Shut up. I don't want to vote for Michael Bolton's choir because...you know, worst idea ever. Right now I think I'm debating between Nick Lachey's and Patti LaBelle's.

5. Best opening scene of CSI: Miami, ever. Except not really, because I've seen what, 9 episodes? *shrugs*

I've made four attempts at this post in the last two days. It's extremely taxing on my sanity. So I'll just boil it down to a few points.

1. I like Maryann Plunkett. That was too boiled-down a sentence even for me, but whatever. Anyway, she is completely nonexistent in the fandom world. Her name only brings up 10,000 hits on Google (burn). I saw her in a play this summer and was too busy focusing on my proximity to Allison Janney and/or Mamie Gummer (best spawn ever) to think about it. The other day I was like, "Hey, I'm gonna contemplate that amazing scene between Brian Kerwin and the chick who played his frequently constantly drunk wife...wait a second, I totally forgot how awesome she was." 4 New York Times reviews, 5 pointless quests on Google, and 2 movies with minimal screentime later (those movies were both pretty good regardless of her near-lack of existence, though. The Squid and the Whale was particularly awesome, and she got to talk about sexual perversions, so I have nothing to complain about. :P), here I am, acknowledging the awesomeness that is her. And listening to her singing in a British accent, which kind of scares me.

2. You know in Run by Snow Patrol there's that one beat right before it switches into the heavier instrumental part? I just sneezed precisely on that beat. It was so profound.

3. Lena Olin's movie Awake is set to be released on November 30th. This is one of her movies that I've really wanted to see since I heard about it, and it's apparently one of her favorites that she's made. I'm almost afraid to see the movie (watch the trailer and you'll understand), but I really, really want to, especially from what I've heard about her role and . There's an official site here.

4. This icon is too relevant for me. Being awake during surgery, and being completely alive and conscious while a defibrillator is being used on you...kind of related. Great. That scene just stopped being hot. Way to be paradoxical, Lena Olin.

5. Okay, that's such a lie, because that scene can never stop being hot. I'll have to check later. However, I will blame Lena Olin. Unless [livejournal.com profile] _ila_ can, um, suggest an alternative. *winks*

6. You are not Darth Vader, you fool. Don't even try to trick me.

DUDE. WTF. Jenna Fischer is separating from her husband. That's so weird. You never hear about that happening with like, cool underrated actors. It scares me.

LMFAO. Credit Dolphin. Greatest Alias parody ever (granted, there are like two, but it's still great). Everyone should watch this.

Oh man, so I watched Havana last night. It was freaking awesome. It was just like...an actual good movie. Kind of hot, kind of classy, kind of epic...generally just ass-kicking. I'm not great at processing thoughts right now, but I know I loved it. And, um, awesome sex scene. Clearly. :D Lena was totally hot. Her being tortured was like my second favorite scene. Which I know sounds kind of sadistic, but it was kind of just deep and meaningful and stuff. Oh, and when she found out about her husband...that was like, amazing.

lmao, a few hours ago, I totally typed "Dennis Foggman" instead of Dustin Hoffman. While talking to [livejournal.com profile] illusory_thrill. Best typo ever. It can't even be explained in any kind of rational context, you know? It was amazing, though. It's one of those things where your brain just defies logic and shuts down and lets your hands handle the rest. Which in my case is often a bad idea. But we've sworn to refer to him by that name from now on anyway, because it's just so perfect.

And now it's like 2 AM and I should probably go to bed. I despise homework. But at the same time it's great because I'm just doing like, econ and English and stuff. So it's not like I have math to deal with. It's so much easier to get it done that way.

Lena Olin

Oh my god. I think I just stopped hating dogs.

Damn you, Lena Olin! How do you keep doing this to me?! (I mean, seriously! How can it not be adorable, the way she squishes its face like that? She is an undeniable genius when it comes to screwing with my mind. I think it's because of Irina.)

I watched Hollywood Homicide last night. It kind of did suck, but seeing Harrison Ford ride a girl's bike (with a flowery basket and a bell, no less) through the streets of LA was pretty much amazing. And...oh my god. The scenes between him and Lena were like...amazingly raunchy. She totally put a blindfold on him and then undressed him, lmao. I'm pretty sure he was wearing sunglasses and nothing else while they were making out. And they also had a little cop roleplay scenario going on at one point. It was totally hot.

I've been contemplating my recent flipping-out of fandom, and in retrospect, I guess it's not such a big deal. Sure, I'm kinda twisted, but I used to be much worse. I improve rapidly, actually. I look at posts/journal entries from like a year ago, and I'm like, omg, pathetic. So I'm probably more sane than I think. But only a little. I'm crazy, but I'm improving, right? I really do enjoy being neurotic, though. :D

Yeah, and speaking of that whole thing...Lena Olin? I love her, and simultaneously she just confuses me...she's so hot, but she's also so weird and so not at all like me, which is very unusual in any form of fandom I typically pursue. She's weird in a way that's like...I can't even explain it. I mean, you all know me, I'm all about crackfic and fandom and the meaning of life. She's more about frighteningly imaginative Christmas tree diagrams and playing Puff Daddy songs on the radio. Also, she goes to this totally deep, personal place which is intensely puzzling to me. And she's so Swedish. I love that about her. She is so freaking odd. It makes me happy.

Finally...youtube clip of Isabella Rossellini on Friends...because it's awesome. Way to go, Ross. You just got seriously burned by Isabella Rossellini. (I refuse to call her just by her first name because of how blatantly inappropriate and scary it is when Ross does it. You'll see. However, it's also a fantastic reminder of why I love Ross.) This has always been one of my favorite scenes on the show, though. Yay. XD

Yeah, and I'm a little bit obsessed with her. I still hate you for this, [livejournal.com profile] _ila_. :P

Allison Janney tomorrow!!!

1. Leave me a comment saying something random, like the lyrics from your current favourite song, or your favourite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

PS, if anyone just wants to ask me anything but not do a whole post thing, I totally welcome that. Clearly I love talking about myself. :P

So far, over the course of watching Alias season 2 (I'm 17 episodes in...oh, my god. This is even better than season one), I've come to a certain conclusion.

this is obvious. oh, and spoilers. )

LMAO speaking of Alias. I have found the greatest icon ever, by [livejournal.com profile] irinafan. Isn't it amazing?
