Fangirling/moviessss/life
Jun. 2nd, 2009 10:56 pm- I think this would be kind of a fabulous time to muse on this year of fandom (I start my fandom years in June because that's when I started fangirling for the first time). I was thinking about how you can have a great year with shitty fandoms and a shitty year with great fandoms, and this is definitely the latter, but the fandoms certainly helped a little. Seriously, check out this epic list.

Meryl Streep May 17, 2009, 6:37-6:43 PM
God, that is fierce. Also, I pretty much non-fangirled Tina Fey for the entire first semester, so that was pretty rad as well. But seriously, look at it. Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin...awesome use of time. Helen Mirren and Dana Delany were fairly solid time-wasters. I don't really know what happened there with Natasha Richardson (it was kind of ridiculously short and resulted in nothing) but it was nice to have that on there, especially looking back now. Andre, Michael Emerson, Bob Gunton...those fucking weird guys made my year. Lisa Edelstein, that was awesome. It was more about House, and I do that pretty much every year, but I loved it anyway. And Cherry Jones? On 24? So life-owning. And finally, freaking Meryl Streep, just...brilliance all around. Also, so much variety. Three guys. A lesbian. Comedy, drama, some weird combination of both. Film, television, theatre. Politics. Britishness. Slovenianism. I love itttt. - I wish I could post more about Meryl, because this would be an awesome thing to have a record of. But this is just one of those fandoms where I can't really express myself that way. Whatever. It's all good. However, I will say that I watched Music of the Heart today and I LOVED IT. SO MUCH. Okay, seriously, I am such a sucker for inspiring teacher movies. Especially ones that involve music or dancing or writing or some form of self-expression. I love them, pretty much unconditionally. So this was incredibly up my alley, especially because of the awesome acting, which is kind of rare for that genre. I wasn't 100% satisfied with the writing, but it was the 90's, so I'll let it slide. But it's just like...Meryl Streep playing the violin and then hugging a bunch of inner-city kids, so it's brilliant all over the place.
- Oh btw I also watched King of California today...holy shit, that was one of the most surprisingly amazing scripts I have ever seen transformed into a movie. I don't even know, it just seems to be like no movie has ever made me feel that way before. It was indie but also not too indie, like...the plot was really fascinating on its own aside from the relationships, but the relationships were really interesting too. It was a perfect combination because most movies seem to be lacking in at least one of those two areas. So, yeah. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
- I am definitely going to bed now because it is summer and I can do whatever I want. Also, I'm sending my laptop to get fixed (when you have 2 months to write a full-length screenplay, you generally don't want to be stuck with a computer that has a couple of rarely functioning keys), so I will most likely be updating from my mom's computer the next time you hear from me. I was hoping to go computerless while it was gone (I could use a peaceful week or two), but I'm totally crazy about this script and I need it to go places, so I'm thinking Final Draft and I will be joined at the hip during this time. That, and I will be watching about 600 movies featuring Meryl during that time. I've never spent so much time without watching TV. It feels nice, I think?
